Forgiveness: Stop Keeping Score And Start Losing Count
What if the very thing holding us back from a deeper, more abundant life is something we rarely examine honestly? This message takes us into the heart of one of the most challenging commands in all of Scripture: forgiveness. Drawing from Matthew 18, we explore the moment Peter approaches Jesus with what he considers a generous offer, forgiving someone up to seven times. Jesus responds with a number that stops us in our tracks: seventy times seven. That is 490 times. But this is not a math lesson. It is a radical reorientation of how we relate to one another and to God. The parable Jesus tells of a king who forgives an enormous debt, only to watch the forgiven servant turn around and choke a fellow servant over a fraction of that amount, forces us to hold up a mirror to our own hearts. The spiritual stakes could not be higher. Matthew 6:14 makes it plain that God's forgiveness of us is directly tied to our willingness to forgive others. This is not a peripheral issue. It sits at the very center of our faith and our eternal standing. We are invited to stop keeping score and start losing count, to move from a posture of bitterness and record-keeping into the freedom that only genuine, heart-level forgiveness can bring.
